Private legal practitioner, Dr. Maurice Ampaw has said despite his incessant verbal attacks on some members of the bench, he remains favorite of some judges and able to win cases on technicalities and facts in their courts.
“Despite my attacks on some of them, I remain the favorite of many and win more cases in their courts”, the controversial lawyer claimed during the telephone interview on Kumasi-base Hello FM.
“Some of the judges like me so much because they see me to be a darling boy”, he disclosed taking swipe at Supreme Court judge, Justice William Atuguba of not upholding the 1992 Constitution in delivering the verdict during the 2012 election petition.
According to him, the posture of the Presiding Judge Justice William Atuguba in the 2012 election petition brought before the apex court was an insult to the petitioners and Ghanaians at large.
“If you read Justice William Atuguba full verdict he insulted Nana Addo and NPP that their petition is one of most useless petitions ever”, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw alleged
“When we have a clear case where the Constitution says “shall’, then we have Atuguba interpreting it the other way …He together with other judges failed to uphold the Constitution of the country”, the public advocate lawyer fumed.
Considering the evidence brought before the apex court and verdict delivered, he observed it was clear that everything was skewed to favor the ruling party; National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President at the time, John Mahama.
“Unlike Kenya’s Supreme Court, our Judges failed to do constitutional right. …judges in Kenya were bold to uphold to their constitutional right” he said urging same in Ghana.
