I still respect Nas despite my lawsuit – Nigerian rapper M.I

Award-winning Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga says he feels disappointed that American hip-hop star, Nas, who is one of his heroes, denied him the opportunity to record a song with him.

M.I filed the lawsuit in the New York Supreme Court, claiming he and his record label entered an agreement with Nas and his partner Ronnie Goodman in 2013 to contribute a verse to a track from M.I but they did not deliver on it after a payment of $50,000 had been made.

In the agreement, Nas was supposed to mention “M.I, Chocolate City, Nigeria, Queens, New York—NAS’s hometown—, Mandela, Trayvon Martin, and the struggles of Africans and African-Americans” in his verse. Nas delivered the track but didn’t mention any of the subject matter Chocolate City [record label] had asked for.

He told Becky of JoyNews that despite Nas’ decision to breach their agreement he respects the award-winning rapper as a legend in the Hip-hop game.

“I respect Nas very much as a legend of the hip-hop game. We just want to clear out a business transaction. All I wanted to do is to do a song with one of my heroes but I’m disappointed in the way it turned out,” he explained.

M.I noted that it is now less difficult to do collaborations with international stars due to the respect they have earned.

As it stands, M.I, who is the CEO of Chocolate City, claims that he is unaware of Nas’ preparedness to make amends to what he is being sued for and hopes that turns out good.
